Container Surveyor / Machine Driver

Location: Southampton

Salary: Competitive

This is a full-time, permanent position working 40 hours per week.

Pentalver Transport is an award winning container logistics company with over 30 years’ experience.  We are currently recruiting for Container Surveyor / Machine Driver to join our Maintenance & Repair team in Southampton. As a Container Surveyor / Machine Driver you will be responsible for surveying containers that are received in damaged conditions, repositioning units and place them to the correct area safely.

Key responsibilities of the Container Surveyor / Machine Driver:

  • Survey all damaged containers entering the depot and produce an estimate in line with shipping line requirements
  • Operate CHE (Container Handling Equipment)
  • Ensure containers are stacked in accordance with the safe systems of work
  • To have/gain knowledge of each damaged stack and where units should be placed. Be aware of each area of the repair bays in which they need to be changed by using own initiative when stacks need to be spun or rearranged. Specials i.e. liner bag stacks are first priority due to depot traffic layout and are to be treated as such.
  • Maintain records in accordance with company policy
  • Observe and understand all risk assessments applicable to your area and the safe systems of work
  • Maintain high standards of good housekeeping
  • Maintain health and safety standards.

Requirements of the Container Surveyor / Machine Driver:

  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience in a counter balance forklift
  • Engineering/fabricating background would be an advantage
  • A mature approach to H&S
  • The ability to use own initiative with a flexible approach
  • The ability to ensure records are maintained
  • Attention to detail
  • Numerical and analytical skills
  • A strong team player.
